Essential Invisible

Our Mission
Essential Invisible Productions is an emerging theater company in Chicago, Illinois. We are dedicated to the exploration and celebration of the things that are essential to our livelihood as human beings, but we cannot hold in our hands: pride, family, love, companionship, kindness, generosity, and more.
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.

Life is a Queer Cabaret!
Dir. by Makenna Van Raalte
Without changing anything in the text itself (pronouns, description, action, etc), how does an identity change the way an audience engages with a character? What does it mean for Cabaret's Emcee to be played by a woman? For Jack Kelly to be queer? For Audrey or Seymour to be played by trans actors? Identities hold significance, and with a backlog of many cis, often straight or straight-assumed characters, there is value in exploring and changing the narrative. Whether it be for a nuanced dramatic effect or a comedic one, we want to see musical theatre gender-fuckery (and beyond) at play!
